There used to be an agreement or something that no non-japanese company is allowed to make AF lenses for Nikon/Canon etc.The Samsung Galaxy A51 is an immensely popular Android phone. The lenses they made were specialist tools (TS lenses) and insanely expensive. Schneider never really made lenses for Nikon or Canon.

Zeiss lenses are made by Cosina or Tamron as widely known. However the Schneider branded lenses were all made by Mamiya. Schneider only lenses I have ever seen have been made for Phase One / Mamiya.

If a division is past on all the time this is not good for company assets. The photo division has been sold multiple times. Rodenstock was divided into different companies and I believe only the divsion of glasses (eye/vision correction) remained at the original Rodenstock company. Rodenstock, so I have heard from someone who works there, produces lenses for Leica.

Like said, they did quick short-term cash stuff to keep investors Minolta camera business was sold because it was succesful but not profitable enough for the greedy people. They sold their profitable medical imaging division for a short term profit. Kodak built 10,000 self-service digital printing kiosks across the US, which bombed due to low quality. Kodak digital cameras failed to keep up with competitors in performance. The problem wasn't just that it was tied to film, it was also they there were terrible as switching to anything else. It should noted at this time (1995), Kodak was still pretty powerful and could have moved back into the instant film business if it wanted to. When those patents expired in the mid 90s, Fuji started selling Instax instant film in the US and when Polaroid went bankrupt, Fuji was the only large scale in-production instant film maker in the world and still profits from that business (even though it is smaller).

We have contacted Kodak Alaris ourselves to independently confirm this information and will update accordingly if we receive a the meantime, Fuji negotiated a deal with Polaroid to distribute outside of the US until the US patents expired. Sino Promise Group was originally planning to purchase more of Kodak Alaris than just the paper and chemistry business, says Inside Imaging, but ‘withdrew at the last minute due to concerns with the accounts of the document scanning business unit.’ There’s no information on exactly how much the final deal was worth. In the end, it was Sino Promise Group that sealed the deal. The company went so far as to say in its 2019 financial report (page 16) that it expected ‘the successful completion of the sale of PPF business in the next year.’Īccording to Inside Imaging’s report, there were multiple entities interested in the division, including Sino, Eastman Kodak (separate entity from Kodak Alaris) and even Chinese film company Lucky Film. We reported back in February 2019 Kodak Alaris was looking to offload its paper and film division, estimated to be worth roughly $34 million at the time. Sino has been manufacturing Kodak Alaris photochemicals as well as silver halide photo paper and dye-sub paper destined for the Asia Pacific market in its Xiamen factory since 2015 and has been manufacturing KA medical X-ray film, industrial film, photographic film, photographic paper and photochemicals at its Wuxi factory since 2016.Ī screenshot from the 'About' section on Sino Promise Group's website. The confirmation from Inside Imaging comes on the heels of a report that an announcement of the proposed sale was distributed internally within the company. According to Australian photo industry publication Inside Imaging, Kodak Alaris has sold its ‘Paper, Photochemicals, Display and Software’ business unit to its largest Chinese distributor, Sino Promise Group (Sino also distributes Canon, Epson and Noritsu photo printers and scanners) and transferred its film business to its Kodak Moments business unit.
